North Korea is continuing to stress the importance of preparing for natural disasters linked to climate change ahead of the summer rainy season.

Rodong Sinmun, the ruling Workers’ Party newspaper, highlighted the country’s Meteorological and Hydrological Bureau on June 22. The newspaper said bureau officials are focused on improving the speed and accuracy of weather forecasts to minimize damage caused by severe weather conditions, while also emphasizing the role of residents in disaster response efforts.

On the front page, the newspaper reported that Jagang Province had reclaimed hundreds of hectares of grazing land to create large-scale pasture areas. It said the provincial party committee is aggressively promoting organizational and political campaigns to expand new pastureland and increase livestock production during the current five-year economic plan.

Page 2 featured a commentary titled, “The People Are Growing Stronger in the Era of Great Transformation Opened by Our Party.” The article urged officials, party members and workers to become versatile talents equipped with strong revolutionary consciousness, creativity and cultural knowledge through efforts to carry out the goals set by the Ninth Party Congress.

Page 3 focused on the importance of cultivating and effectively utilizing talent across sectors. The newspaper said that recognizing the value of talent is essential and called for establishing long-term plans to maximize individuals’ abilities by placing them in suitable positions.

Page 4 carried an article titled, “Our People’s Love for the National Flag Is Growing Stronger.” The report said citizens are demonstrating patriotism and loyalty by working harder and applying greater creativity and dedication in their daily lives to remain worthy before the national flag.

Page 6 reported that regional chapters of the pro-Pyongyang organization in Japan, the General Association of Korean Residents in Japan (Chongryon), had held meetings across the country to implement decisions adopted at the group’s 26th congress. According to the newspaper, participants discussed measures to further strengthen Chongryon as an organization serving the interests of ethnic Koreans in Japan.
