LA Dodgers Bolster Bullpen: What Does Seth Halvorsen’s Trade Mean for Their 2023 Season?

LifestyleLA Dodgers Bolster Bullpen: What Does Seth Halvorsen's Trade Mean for Their 2023 Season?

The Los Angeles Dodgers have bolstered their bullpen through a trade.

ESPN reported on Tuesday that the Dodgers acquired relief pitcher Seth Halvorsen from the Colorado Rockies.

In the deal, the Dodgers sent outfielder Randy Bednar and pitcher Nick Frasso to Colorado in exchange for Halvorsen.

Halvorsen, a 7th-round pick in the 2023 draft, has appeared in 21 games this season, posting a 0-1 record with 2 holds and a 4.74 earned run average (ERA).

His career stats include a 3-4 record, 13 saves, 8 holds, and a 4.31 ERA over 75 appearances. Known for his blazing fastball that can touch 100 mph (about 161 km/h), Halvorsen is a true fireballer.

While he served as the closer last season, racking up 11 saves, he’s struggled with consistency this year. Earlier this month, he landed on the 15-day injured list with right shoulder inflammation.

Halvorsen is currently making rehab appearances in Triple-A and is expected to rejoin the big league club soon.

The key to Halvorsen’s success with the Dodgers will hinge on his command.

MLB.com notes that while Halvorsen boasts one of the fastest heaters in the majors, control has been his Achilles’ heel throughout his career. He’s issued 38 walks (4.8 per 9 innings) over 71 innings in three seasons, highlighting his ongoing battle with command.
