Korean baseball legend Park Chan-ho has made waves by investing in the Oakland Athletics, an Major League Baseball (MLB) franchise that recently ended its 26-year relationship with general manager David Forst.

The Oakland Athleticss announced on August 8 that they had mutually agreed to part ways with Forst. Assistant General Manager (GM) Dan Feinstein will step in as interim general manager during the transition period.

Forst, who joined the Athletics organization in 2000, had been at the helm as GM since 2015.

During his tenure, he worked alongside Billy Beane, the former GM immortalized in the film Moneyball, utilizing sabermetrics to guide the team through its most successful years.

However, even Forst couldn’t escape accountability for the team’s recent struggles.

The A’s currently occupy fourth place in the AL West with a disappointing 45-70 record, severely damaging their postseason aspirations.

With the franchise set to leave Oakland after the 2024 season for a new home in Las Vegas, the front office shake-up aligns with the organization’s broader transformation.

A’s owner John Fisher recently sold a portion of his stake to fund the construction of a new ballpark in Las Vegas. Park Chan-ho, as part of an investment consortium, contributed 70 million USD for a 2-3% ownership stake.

The Athletics are temporarily calling Sacramento home, with plans to inaugurate their Las Vegas era in 2028 upon completion of their new stadium.
