Samsung SDS is set to support Seoul National University (SNU) in establishing an artificial intelligence (AI) campus.

The company announced on Monday that it had secured a contract for SNU’s Next-Generation Network Platform Transformation for Intelligent Campus Implementation project.

This initiative aims to build a high-performance network infrastructure crucial for AI research and education, paving the way for SNU’s evolution into an AI Native Campus optimized for the AI era. SNU is pursuing this transformation to adapt to the changing university landscape driven by AI proliferation and to create an integrated support system at the institutional level to meet the growing demand for AI applications.

SNU plans to upgrade its campus network, which spans 243 buildings and serves about 50,000 users, to an ultra-high-speed, high-bandwidth 800 Gbps network environment. This enhancement will facilitate rapid exchange of large datasets essential for AI research. The project will also bolster security and streamline network operations through software-defined network segmentation, improving overall stability and management efficiency.

This upgrade is expected to significantly enhance the network service quality experienced by students, faculty, researchers, and staff.

Samsung SDS intends to integrate and manage SNU’s extensive campus network as a unified system, enabling swift network service delivery and operational optimization.

Dr. Gil-gon Ko, Director of SNU’s Information and Communication Center, stated that this project will establish the foundation for an intelligent campus and accelerate digital and AI innovation across the educational, research, and administrative functions.
