About 8,000 experts and other participants in lung cancer from around the world will gather in Seoul to share research findings and treatment methods.
The Seoul Metropolitan Government and the Seoul Tourism Organization said Sept. 9 that they will host the 2026 World Conference on Lung Cancer (WCLC 2026) at COEX from Sept. 12-15.
WCLC is the world’s largest international conference on lung cancer, where the latest research findings on the disease are presented. It will be held in Seoul for the first time in 19 years, since 2007.
Last month, Seoul also became the first city in South Korea to host the 2030 Asia Pacific Society of Infection Control International Conference (APSIC 2030), attracting about 1,500 infection control experts and medical professionals from the Asia-Pacific region.
According to the 2025 international conference rankings released by the Union of International Associations (UIA), Seoul ranked third globally and first in Asia with 216 events. By the International Congress and Convention Association (ICCA) rankings, Seoul also placed ninth globally, remaining among the world’s top 10 destinations for the third consecutive year.
Cho Sung-ho, director general of tourism and sports at the Seoul Metropolitan Government, said, “We will expand stays and tourism among international conference participants and connect them to the revitalization of local tourism and the economy.”
