Variety, the renowned American entertainment magazine, recently published an interview with BLACKPINK’s Lisa, where she discussed her new documentary film, “LISA: BLACKPINK.”
The film made its debut on September 11 as part of the prestigious Gala Presentation section at the 51st Toronto International Film Festival.
“LISA: BLACKPINK” offers an intimate look at Lisa’s journey, from her childhood aspirations to her meteoric rise with BLACKPINK, and her evolution as a solo artist. The documentary is helmed by Su Kim, the director behind the acclaimed Apple TV+ original “The Last Mermaids.”
The film addresses a controversial incident from BLACKPINK’s trainee days, where footage leaked of the group using racially insensitive language in a rap. Lisa reveals in the documentary that she received death threats from the person responsible for leaking the video.
Addressing the incident, Lisa expressed remorse, stating that she deeply apologizes. As someone who grew up in Thailand, she wasn’t educated about these issues and didn’t understand the implications at the time.
She emphasized her commitment to growth, adding that now that she has learned and understand the impact, she promises it will never happen again. What it did was truly wrong, and she’s sincerely sorry.
Lisa also reflected on how the leak affected her first solo Coachella performance last year. She wanted to focus on her show, but these unexpected challenges arose, which was disheartening. However, she managed to push through, she shared.
“LISA: BLACKPINK” is slated for release in the U.S. on October 12, offering fans an unprecedented look into the life of the K-pop sensation.
