Hanmi Semiconductor has established its U.S. subsidiary, Hanmi USA, marking a significant entry into the American semiconductor market.

On October 16, the company held an opening ceremony at the Hanmi USA office in San Jose, California, as announced on Monday.

Key executives, including Chairman Kwak Dong-shin, attended the event to commemorate the new chapter for the U.S. entity.

Hanmi Semiconductor emphasized that the creation of Hanmi USA fulfills the founding vision embedded in its name after 46 years. The name Hanmi reflects the late founder Kwak No-gwon’s ambition to bridge the semiconductor industries of Korea and the U.S.

Kwak No-gwon worked at Motorola for 14 years from 1967 before founding Hanmi Semiconductor in 1980 with Motorola’s support, pioneering the semiconductor equipment industry in Korea.

Since then, Hanmi Semiconductor has evolved into a global leader in advanced semiconductor packaging equipment, with the establishment of Hanmi USA bringing the founder’s vision to fruition.

The launch of Hanmi USA, following Hanmi Taiwan, Hanmi China, and Hanmi Singapore, further strengthens the company’s global supply chain.

Hanmi USA will operate from Silicon Valley in San Jose, a hub for semiconductor giants and tech firms, to enhance technical support for local customers.

The company plans to deploy skilled engineers locally to provide proactive technical support, aligning with the operational timelines of new semiconductor factories being established in the U.S.

Chairman Kwak Dong-shin stated that the U.S. is a crucial market driving global artificial intelligence (AI) and cutting-edge semiconductor technology. Hanmi USA will offer close technical support to local customers and expand collaborations with global semiconductor firms to bolster the competitiveness worldwide.

Meanwhile, Hanmi Semiconductor projects an operating profit of nearly 130 billion KRW (approximately 97.5 million USD) for the third quarter of this year. This growth is attributed to increased demand for thermal compression (TC) bonders as the high-bandwidth memory (HBM) market shifts to HBM4.

According to FnGuide, analysts forecast Hanmi Semiconductor’s third-quarter sales at 263.7 billion KRW (197.9 million USD) and operating profit at 129.1 billion KRW (about 96.8 million USD), representing year-over-year increases of 58.6% and 90.4%, respectively. The expected operating profit margin is 49.0%.
