Starlink’s Map Mystery: Why Did They Remove Dokdo?

EtcStarlink's Map Mystery: Why Did They Remove Dokdo?

The map showing the service status of Starlink (Availability Map) no longer displays Dokdo.

According to industry sources on Tuesday, Dokdo was marked as part of Korea on Starlink’s service status map until January of this year, but it has since been removed.

This map provides information on whether Starlink service is available and speed and latency data.

As of January this year, Dokdo was classified as part of Korea and labeled with “Starting in 2024,” but it has now been removed from the current map. The rest of Korea is also marked as having an unknown current service date.

When searching for Dokdo, the map suggests the location as Liancourt Rocks—a name derived from a French vessel that navigated around the area.

Starlink is currently discussing frequency and technology with Korea’s Ministry of Science and ICT as it prepares to launch its services in South Korea.
