On Tuesday, South Korean Prime Minister Han Duck Soo met with a delegation from the United Nations Conference of Presidents of the General Assembly (UNCPGA) to discuss international issues, including the situation on the Korean Peninsula.

Han held a preliminary meeting with Philémon Yang, the 79th President of the UN General Assembly, at the Lotte Hotel in Seoul.

In the meeting, Han expressed concern, stating, “North Korea’s troop deployment to Russia poses a serious security threat to the Korean Peninsula and the international community.”

He also called for support for the August 15 Unification Doctrine, which is based on principles of freedom, peace, and prosperity.

Han further noted that the UN should play a central role in fostering global solidarity in an era of intensifying global conflicts, geopolitical competition, and escalating emerging security threats, such as climate change and artificial intelligence (AI).

He expressed hope that the UN General Assembly would take a leading role in strengthening international cooperation.

Yang praised South Korea’s commitment to global peace and prosperity and encouraged it to continue its active role in addressing major international issues and supporting multilateralism.

Following the meeting, Han hosted a luncheon for the UNCPGA.

The UNCPGA is visiting South Korea for two days to attend a plenary session in Seoul.

The UNCPGA is an association of current and former presidents of the UN General Assembly. Former Prime Minister Han Seung Soo, who served as the 56th President from 2022 to 2025, also attended the luncheon.

Han noted the ongoing escalation of international conflicts in regions such as the Middle East and Ukraine and delays in achieving the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). He urged the delegation to contribute to finding multilateral solutions to these global challenges.

The UNCPGA expressed hope that South Korea would continue to lead efforts to strengthen international solidarity and address global issues, with the UN at the center of these initiatives.
