The Ministry of Food and Drug Safety of Korea announced the suspension of sales and recall of banana chip products after detecting excessive pesticide “imidacloprid.” Consumers who purchase these products are advised to return them to the retailer.
The affected banana chips, categorized as processed fruit and vegetable products, were manufactured by Vosuck Food Co., Ltd., an agricultural company based in Sacheon-si, Gyeongsangnam-do Province, and distributed by SanDeul Co., Ltd., located in Goryeong-gun, Gyeongsangbuk-do Province.
The product contained imidacloprid at a concentration of 0.05 mg/kg, exceeding the safety threshold of 0.01 mg/kg. Imidacloprid is a pesticide that can potentially cause respiratory problems, such as bronchitis if ingested.
The recalled products are 30-gram packages with an expiration date of July 10, 2025, totaling 60 kg of production. The Ministry of Food and Drug Safety asked Sacheon-si, Gyeongsangnam-do, to take prompt measures to recall the products and advised consumers who purchased them to stop using them immediately and return them to the retailer.
Consumers who witness any food-related violations can report them by calling the food safety hotline at 1399 or using the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety’s Food Safety Information application “In My Hand” on their smartphones.
