Amazon Web Services (AWS) announced on Tuesday that it has received a Level 1 certification (for Group D) from the Korea Internet & Security Agency (KISA) under the Cloud Security Assurance Program (CSAP).

CSAP is a program designed to offer government and public institutions private cloud services that have been validated for safety and reliability.

For the security certification evaluation, KISA assessed various components of AWS’s Seoul region, including computing, storage, networking, databases, and security.

Yoon Jeong Won, head of AWS Korea’s public sector, stated, “The CSAP certification enables Korean public institutions to utilize the cutting-edge capabilities of AWS Cloud. This paves the way for accelerating digital transformation in the public sector.”

He continued, “AWS meets 143 global security and compliance standards, providing a cloud environment that adheres to various regulatory requirements, including PCI-DSS and GDPR. Since its launch in 2016, our Seoul Region has expanded to four availability zones, enabling us to manage sensitive workloads and comply with data residency regulations.”

AWS had previously revealed plans to invest approximately 7.85 trillion won (about $5.89 billion) in Korean cloud infrastructure by 2027.
