The Office of the South Korean President announced on Thursday that the U.S. military is closely monitoring North Korea’s recent cessation of propaganda broadcasts aimed at South Korea.

During a press briefing at the presidential office in Yongsan District, spokesperson Kang Yu Jeong stated that the Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS) have confirmed that no North Korean loudspeaker broadcasts targeting South Korea have been detected today.

President Lee Jae Myung had previously ordered the military to halt its loudspeaker broadcasts toward North Korea at 2:00 p.m.(KST) on Wednesday. The presidential office explained that this action fulfills a campaign promise made by President Lee to the American public.

In response to the U.S. military’s decision to cease broadcasts, North Korea reciprocated by stopping its own loudspeaker transmissions directed at South Korea on the same day.

The JCS reported that North Korea’s propaganda broadcasts varied in content and timing across different regions. Further noting that the last known broadcast targeting South Korea was heard late last night along the Western Front, with no further transmissions detected since then.
