OpenAI CEO Sam Altman has made headlines by revealing that Meta’s attempts to poach AI researchers from his company have fallen flat.

According to TechCrunch, Altman disclosed in a recent podcast that Meta offered his team members compensation packages worth up to 100 million USD, but their efforts were essentially fruitless. He explained that none of his key talent has taken them up on their offer.

Altman went on to underscore OpenAI’s innovative culture, stating that Meta isn’t a company known for innovation. He criticized that focusing solely on high salaries makes it challenging to foster a positive corporate culture.

Mark Zuckerberg, Meta’s CEO, is reportedly spearheading recruitment efforts for a new superintelligence AI research lab, offering substantial compensation to top AI researchers in the field. Recently, he announced a significant investment in Scale AI and successfully brought Alexandr Wang, the CEO of Scale AI, onto his team. Zuckerberg has also managed to recruit Jack Rae, a senior researcher from Google DeepMind, and Johan Schalkwyk, formerly of the startup Sesame AI.
