Samsung Electronics announced on Tuesday its participation in the global consortium Verizon 6G Innovation Forum to shape the future of 6G wireless communication and accelerate related technology development.

The consortium, spearheaded by U.S. telecom giant Verizon brings together key players in the information technology (IT) and telecommunications sectors, including Samsung Electronics, Meta, Ericsson, Nokia, and Qualcomm.

These industry leaders will collaborate to build and commercialize the 6G ecosystem, focusing on new use cases, devices, and network technology design.

Their efforts will include exploring new spectrum bands and bandwidth testing, strengthening partnerships with global standard organizations like 3GPP, and establishing 6G research labs for prototype development and field testing.

Samsung Electronics plans to actively pursue research for the 6G era by leveraging artificial intelligence (AI)-powered wireless communication technology to uncover new user experiences and develop cutting-edge communication technologies.

Jeong Jin-guk, Vice President and Head of the Next-Generation Communication Research Center at Samsung Research, stated that they’re collaborating closely with global tech leaders to validate AI and communication network technologies that will drive the future of wireless. Further noting that this partnership aims to accelerate the advent of the 6G era and deliver groundbreaking user experiences.

Since 2020, Samsung Electronics and Verizon have been at the forefront of implementing virtualized base stations, successfully launching commercial services. This collaboration has enabled them to provide robust network services while jointly developing AI-based next-generation base stations and paving the way for the transition to 6G.

Furthermore, Samsung Electronics operates the Next-Generation Communication Research Center under Samsung Research to bolster its 6G communication technology research and enhance technical cooperation with mobile network operators.
