North Korea and Russia have signed an agreement to bolster cooperation in the media sector.
The Workers’ Party of Korea’s official newspaper, Rodong Sinmun, reported on Thursday that North Korea’s Committee on Publicity and Information and Russia’s Ministry of Digital Development, Communications, and Mass Media finalized this agreement in Moscow on Tuesday.
North Korean Ambassador to Russia Shin Hong-chul and Russian Deputy Minister of Mass Media Bella Mukharbieva Cherkesova attended the signing ceremony and affixed their signatures to the agreement. However, Rodong Sinmun did not disclose specific details of the accord.
the Russian Embassy in Pyongyang revealed via its Telegram account that the agreement encompasses provisions for information exchange between the two countries and private sectors, ensures cooperation in the media field, and facilitates the exchange of various materials, including those from broadcasting organizations and publications.
The embassy stated that this agreement reflects various collaborative efforts aimed at enhancing information connectivity between the two nations. They emphasized that it paves the way for new prospects in expanding the North Korea-Russia partnership and establishes a foundation for in-depth and mutually beneficial cooperation.
Furthermore, they noted that both countries have expressed a strong commitment to pursuing effective and constructive cooperation in the media sector.
In recent times, North Korea and Russia have been intensifying their collaboration across various sectors, extending beyond their military ties.
On Monday, a senior official from the Russian state media outlet Rossiya Segodnya visited North Korea and met with officials from the North Korean state media agency, the Korean Central News Agency.
While North Korea had completely sealed its borders due to the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, causing all foreign media outlets to withdraw, this year the country appears to be resuming media exchanges, focusing primarily on its allies, including Russia and China.
