The Korea Radioactive Waste Agency (KORAD) announced on Tuesday that it will participate in the 2026 WM (Waste Management) Symposium, a major international conference on radioactive waste management and nuclear power plant decommissioning, held in Phoenix, Arizona.

This symposium is the world’s largest international conference on radioactive waste, bringing together 2,500 participants from 30 countries and 900 organizations. Global experts will convene to present and discuss topics related to radioactive waste management and nuclear decommissioning.

At the symposium, KORAD plans to present its third basic plan for managing low- and intermediate-level radioactive waste in South Korea, the national research and development (R&D) roadmap for establishing deep geological disposal facilities, and the strategic role of underground research laboratories.

The agency also aims to strengthen international cooperation in radioactive waste management by staying abreast of global trends and expanding collaborations with key institutions and companies from major countries.

KORAD Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Cho Sung-don stated that by advancing the radioactive waste management technologies, it will actively promote the export of Korean waste management solutions to small and medium-sized enterprises worldwide.
