North Korea has announced that it will convene the first session of the 15th Supreme People’s Assembly on March 22.

The party’s official newspaper, Rodong Sinmun, reported on Tuesday that the Standing Committee of the Supreme People’s Assembly has informed delegates that the first session of the 15th Supreme People’s Assembly will be held in Pyongyang on March 22, 2026.

The meeting’s agenda includes discussions on electing the Chairman of the State Affairs Commission, selecting state leadership bodies and Supreme People’s Assembly subcommittees, amending the socialist constitution, implementing the five-year national economic development plan proposed at the 9th Congress of the Workers’ Party of Korea, and reviewing the 2025 national budget execution along with the 2026 national budget. Delegate registration is scheduled for March 21.

The Supreme People’s Assembly, North Korea’s legislative body, is constitutionally the highest sovereign institution. It serves to formalize decisions made by the Workers’ Party into state policies. The newly elected delegates are expected to approve these decisions during their inaugural meeting.

The newspaper also released the results of the 15th Supreme People’s Assembly delegate elections held on March 15.

According to the report, the elections for the 15th Supreme People’s Assembly of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea were conducted in strict compliance with the election laws for delegates of local people’s assemblies.

The Rodong Sinmun, the official newspaper of North Korea’s Workers’ Party, reported on Monday that elections for deputies to the 15th Supreme People’s Assembly were held across the country on March 15, amid a powerful outpouring of the entire nation’s conviction and resolve to firmly uphold and glorify the Juche socialist system / Rodong Sinmun

The report stated that 99.99% of all registered voters nationwide participated in the elections. Only 0.0037% were unable to vote due to being abroad or at sea, while 0.00003% abstained.

Among the voters, 99.93% cast ballots in favor, while 0.07% voted against. In accordance with North Korean election laws, 687 individuals, including workers, farmers, intellectuals, soldiers, and officials, were elected as delegates to the Supreme People’s Assembly.

In the previous election for the 15th Supreme People’s Assembly held on March 10, 2019, 687 delegates were also selected. Following a 2019 constitutional amendment, the position of Chairman of the State Affairs Commission, held by the supreme leader, was barred from being a delegate. Consequently, Kim Jong Un did not appear on the list of elected officials this time, mirroring the previous election.

North Korean state media reported that as of 6:00 p.m. (Korean time) on March 15, 99.99% of registered voters had participated in the elections. On election day, Kim cast his vote at the Chŏnsŏng Youth Coal Mine and emphasized the importance of self-reliance in the coal sector during his speech to the public.
