On March 27, Representative Jun Ho Han (Goyang City, Gyeonggi Province) held a press conference at the National Assembly’s communication hall, calling for a thorough investigation into the alleged manipulation of North Korea fund transfer cases and calling for the dismissal of Prosecutor Sang Yong Park. Jeong Hwa Baek, the spouse of former Gyeonggi Province Peace Vice Governor Hwa Young Lee, attended the press conference to present the perspective of affected families.
Han raised concerns about a potentially manipulated investigation, citing recently disclosed documents from the Ministry of Justice. He said that the documents revealed by the media were truly shocking, adding that the testimonies of correctional officers and official records clearly demonstrated how blatantly false the statements made during the National Assembly hearing were.
He further asserted that the prosecutor’s office had essentially become a staging ground for collusion in the manipulated investigation and a de facto management office for former Chairman Sung Tae Kim while he was in custody.
Emphasizing the need for a congressional investigation, Han declared that the full truth behind the alleged manipulated investigation into the North Korea fund transfer cases must be uncovered through a thorough National Assembly inquiry. He also insisted that the wrongful detentions resulting from what he described as a tainted investigation must be immediately halted and that former Vice Governor Hwa Young Lee be released. Han also demanded accountability, stating that the Ministry of Justice must immediately dismiss Prosecutor Sang Yong Park and conduct a comprehensive investigation, with strict punishment for all those involved in what he described as a manipulated investigation. He concluded that, while manipulation might temporarily obscure the truth, it could not imprison it forever, and that he would continue to fight tirelessly until the truth prevailed and justice was restored to the legal system.
