
The Blue House stated that Kim Yo-jong, the Deputy Director of North Korea’s Workers’ Party, responded positively to President Lee Jae Myung’s expression of regret over the recent drone incursion, calling it a frank and bold stance. The administration affirmed its commitment to continuing efforts towards peaceful coexistence on the Korean Peninsula.
A Blue House official conveyed this information through a press release on Monday, expressing hope that this swift exchange between the leaders of North and South Korea would contribute to peaceful coexistence in the region.
Earlier, Kim, in a statement released by the Korean Central News Agency, praised President Lee’s expression of regret regarding the North Korean drone incident, stating it demonstrated the demeanor of a frank and bold head of state.
She added that it is highly commendable that the President directly expressed his regret and mentioned measures to prevent recurrence. Its government views this as a wise decision on his part.
During a Cabinet meeting on the same day, President Lee addressed the incident, saying that an unprecedented civilian drone incident has occurred under this administration. He expresses regret to North Korea for the unnecessary military tensions caused by some irresponsible and reckless actions.
This marks the first time President Lee has expressed regret regarding the recent North Korean drone incident.
