Revolutionizing Delivery: CJ Logistics Introduces AI ECG for Early Heart Disease Detection

TechRevolutionizing Delivery: CJ Logistics Introduces AI ECG for Early Heart Disease Detection

CJ Logistics is revolutionizing health management for delivery drivers by introducing an artificial intelligence (AI)-powered electrocardiogram (ECG) program for early heart disease detection at its delivery sites. This groundbreaking move marks the first time in the logistics industry that ECG AI analysis has been actively incorporated into health screenings. The initiative aims to address the ongoing concerns about overwork and reduce the risk of sudden deaths among delivery personnel.

According to industry reports from Tuesday, CJ Logistics has implemented a mobile health screening system that brings certified medical professionals directly to approximately 300 delivery sub-terminals nationwide. This innovative approach allows drivers to undergo health checks at their workplace, eliminating the need to visit hospitals during work hours.

The comprehensive health assessment includes over 60 basic tests, covering cardiovascular diseases, blood work, hypertension, and liver cancer. It also features specialized screenings for arthritis and infections (CRP), tailored to address the unique health challenges faced by delivery drivers, such as prolonged driving, repetitive loading and unloading, and exposure to seasonal temperature fluctuations.

A standout feature of this year’s program is the newly introduced ECG AI test, which significantly improves the accuracy of diagnosing four major heart conditions: arrhythmia, heart failure, acute myocardial infarction, and valve disease, compared to traditional ECG methods.

A CJ Logistics spokesperson highlighted the effectiveness of the AI system, stating that during the ECG AI interpretation process, it identified high-risk indicators in 35 out of 1,361 individuals initially classified as normal. This breakthrough was made possible by the algorithm, which has been trained on nearly 20 million ECG data points and waveforms, enabling it to detect subtle abnormalities that might otherwise go unnoticed.

The critical nature of heart disease management is underscored by recent statistics. The National Statistical Office projects that by 2024, the heart disease mortality rate will reach 65.7 per 100,000 people, making it the second leading cause of death after cancer.

CJ Logistics has been at the forefront of employee health initiatives since 2013 when it became the first in the industry to offer health screenings for delivery drivers. Now in its 14th year, the program continues to evolve. Although independent contractors like delivery drivers are not legally required to undergo health checks, CJ Logistics covers 100% of the screening costs as part of its commitment to worker welfare. Initially offering biennial check-ups, the company has since increased the frequency to annual screenings based on feedback from drivers.

In a further step to protect its workforce, CJ Logistics implemented an integrated safety monitoring system in June of this year. This system utilizes AI-powered closed circuit television (CCTV) to detect signs of distress, such as fainting, in real-time, aiming to prevent heat-related illnesses during the sweltering summer months.

The company’s dedication to driver health is reflected in the positive feedback received. A CJ Logistics representative noted that the recent satisfaction survey on the health screening program yielded an impressive score of 4.61 out of 5, with an 82% participation rate among delivery drivers. It remains committed to fostering an environment where the drivers can work safely and maintain optimal health.
