The San Francisco Giants suffered a heartbreaking one-run loss to the Los Angeles Angels in a tightly contested matchup.
The game took place on Monday at Oracle Corporation Park in San Francisco, California, where the Giants fell short in a 4-3 defeat against the Angels.
Giants’ outfielder Lee Jung-hoo, 28, was given the day off, not appearing in the starting lineup or as a substitute.
San Francisco found themselves in an early hole, conceding a run in the top of the first inning on an infield groundout with runners on the corners. The Angels extended their lead to 4-0 in the fourth when Jorge Soler crushed a solo shot, followed by Joe Adele’s two-run blast.
The Giants managed to scratch across a run in the fifth and mounted a late rally in their final turn at bat.
With two outs and runners on first and second in the ninth, Luis Arraez ripped a two-run double, bringing San Francisco within striking distance at 4-3.
The Giants were just one hit away from tying the game, but Heliot Ramos struck out after a hard-fought seven-pitch at-bat, ending their comeback bid.
The loss snapped a two-game winning streak for San Francisco, dropping their season record to 44-61 and keeping them in fourth place in the National League West.
Meanwhile, the Angels halted their three-game skid, improving to 42-64, but remain at the bottom of the American League West standings.
