L&K Biomed, a leading spinal implant company, has successfully completed a complex multi-level cervical spine surgery in collaboration with American medical experts using their innovative height-expandable cage designed for cervical applications.

On Tuesday, L&K Biomed announced that a surgical team at Spartanburg Medical Center in South Carolina had successfully performed a four-level anterior cervical discectomy and fusion (ACDF) using the company’s height-expandable cage, BluEX-C.

This groundbreaking surgery marks the first complex multi-level cervical reconstruction case utilizing BluEX-C, and has garnered attention from the renowned American spine publication, Becker’s Spine.

The four-level ACDF is a challenging procedure that simultaneously addresses multiple cervical segments. It requires meticulous attention to restoring disc height, maintaining proper cervical alignment, and ensuring stable implant fixation.

The surgical team first removed the damaged discs from the C3 to C7 regions. They then inserted four BluEX-C cages in their unexpanded state, confirmed their positions, and sequentially expanded them in situ. This approach allowed for precise height adjustments and optimal cervical alignment tailored to the patient’s specific anatomy at each level, according to the company.

The BluEX-C is engineered to allow gradual height expansion after implantation, enabling surgeons to fine-tune the device to match each patient’s unique anatomical structure. This feature significantly enhances precision and stability, particularly in complex multi-level surgeries.

Dr. Christopher Chittum, a prominent U.S. spine specialist who performed the surgery, praised the device: BluEX-C can be precisely expanded to the necessary height after insertion, achieving optimal cervical alignment and stability. It also demonstrated exceptional maneuverability and precise control, even in this complex case.

An L&K Biomed spokesperson commented that the enthusiastic adoption of BluEX-C by U.S. medical professionals for complex multi-level surgeries underscores the product’s technological superiority and reliability.
