A man in his 40s, who brandished a weapon after a request to be quiet in an internet cafe, has been arrested by the police.
Seoul Gangbuk Police Station announced on May 9th that they had arrested the man for charges of attempted murder. The incident occurred around 9:20 p.m. on May 8th. The man was accused of brandishing a weapon after an argument with another user at an internet cafe in Mia-dong, Gangbuk-gu, Seoul.
The victim posted on an online community around 11:10 p.m. that night, “I got stabbed at an internet cafe,” sharing his experience.
The victim wrote, “Someone kept swearing and causing a scene in the internet cafe. I asked him to be quiet as he was right in front of me.” And also wrote “But I had a feeling that the man was upset. He threatened someone loudly over voice chat, swearing that he would kill them.”
The victim continued, “Sure enough, he kept telling me to wait because he was going to apologize to me. Then I heard him on the phone saying, “Just so you know, I can’t come tomorrow” and I immediately prepared for defense.” Afterward, it was reported that the man brandished a weapon at the victim’s neck. The victim revealed, “I got stabbed in the neck. He jabbed me with a pocket knife,” and “The man is smaller than me, so I grabbed his wrist holding the weapon and asked people for help. People eventually got him off me.”
The victim also shared photos of himself stopping the bleeding from his neck while his white shirt was stained with blood.
The victim also injured his palm while stopping the suspect. The victim later said, “I finally found a hospital after a long search because of the hospital strike. I was shocked once, but I survived after getting an IV drip. My life is not in danger.” He added more details about the suspect, “He seemed like a person with schizophrenia.”
Meanwhile, it was reported that the two did not know each other, and the police plan to investigate the exact circumstances of the crime against the suspect.
