As the AI Seoul Summit is set to be co-hosted by the two governments, President Yoon Suk Yeol and British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak stated, “The values of AI innovation, safety, and inclusion will be established as the principles of global AI governance.”

The two leaders proposed this as the three visions of the AI Seoul Summit through an op-ed published in i-Newspaper and JoongAng Ilbo. The AI Summit, which will be held in Seoul for two days from May 21-22, will proceed with the theme of AI’s Innovation, Safety, and Inclusion.

Yoon and Sunak published a joint op-ed in the two articles to announce the significance of the AI Seoul Summit a day before the conference.

In the op-ed, the two leaders stated, “Last November at Bletchley Park, we focused on the safety of AI. This time in Seoul, we will present three principles of AI governance to fully realize the potential of AI for the international community.” Regarding the first principle of innovation, they noted that the government “can promote AI innovation by investing in computing infrastructure, promoting advanced research and development (R&D), and restraining excessive regulations on startups.”

They also emphasized safety to prevent the risks that AI development may cause, stating, “At this AI Summit, we will urge businesses to assess and respond to AI risks.”

Lastly, the two leaders mentioned inclusion, stating, “We must ensure that everyone can enjoy the benefits of AI.”

They explained, “At the AI Seoul Summit, we will foster cooperation with various partners so that AI can contribute to addressing global issues such as poverty and climate change.”

Yoon and Sunak said, “We will continue to strengthen cooperation to solve various AI-related concerns even after the AI Seoul Summit.”

The AI Seoul Summit is a follow-up meeting to the AI Safety Summit held at Bletchley Park, UK in November 2023.

The summit, ministerial meetings, and AI global forums attended by South Korea, G7, Australia, the EU, and the UN will take place over two days.
