Mercedes-Benz Korea announced on Wednesday that it has begun taking pre-orders for its new electric sport utility vehicle (SUV), the all-new Electric GLB. Customer deliveries are set to start in late November, with prices beginning at 69.9 million KRW (approximately 52,300 USD).

The all-new Electric GLB is the second model developed on Mercedes-Benz’s next-generation Modular Architecture (MMA), following the all-new Electric CLA.

It combines the robust SUV design characteristic of the existing GLB with cutting-edge electrification technology and advanced digital features.

The vehicle boasts a commanding presence with its upright front end, steeply raked windshield, and short overhangs. The front fascia features an illuminated panel adorned with 94 light-emitting diode (LED) stars and high-performance LED headlights.

Interior space has been significantly enhanced. The wheelbase has been extended by 60 mm to 2,889 mm compared to the previous GLB, increasing rear legroom by up to 68 mm.

The standard panoramic roof and the SUV’s distinctive roofline ensure ample headroom. Compared to the EQB, front seat space has increased by up to 35 mm, while rear passengers enjoy up to 64 mm more room.

Cargo capacity is impressive, with a 127-liter front trunk (frunk) and a 540-liter rear trunk. Folding down the rear seats expands the rear cargo area to a cavernous 1,715 liters.

The Electric GLB comes equipped with Mercedes-Benz’s proprietary operating system, MB.OS. It features the MBUX Superscreen, comprising a 10.25-inch driver display and two 14-inch displays for the center console and front passenger. MB.OS integrates control of the vehicle’s key functions and supports over-the-air (OTA) software updates.

The fourth-generation MBUX infotainment system includes a virtual assistant powered by generative artificial intelligence (AI), leveraging technologies from ChatGPT, Microsoft Bing, and Google Maps.

The vehicle also includes MB.Drive Assist, a Level 2 advanced driver assistance system. This system supports automated lane changes on highways and expressways when the turn signal is activated. Additionally, it offers 360-degree camera-based parking assistance as a standard feature.

In the domestic market, Mercedes-Benz will offer the GLB 250+ Electric model. This variant features a lithium-ion battery with a usable capacity of 85 kWh.

According to the European WLTP standard, the maximum driving range on a single charge is up to 631 km (about 392 miles). With fast charging, it can add enough power to travel up to 260 km (about 162 miles) in just 10 minutes, based on WLTP standards.

Mercedes-Benz Korea also unveiled the all-new Electric CLA alongside the all-new Electric GLC on October 19.

Shirin Amira, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Mercedes-Benz Korea, stated that the CLA and GLC are flagship models that showcase the next-generation electrification technologies, building on Mercedes-Benz’s established brand value. It aims to provide a premium electric vehicle (EV) experience to the customers and set new benchmarks in the luxury EV market.
