Hyundai-Kia See February Sales Slide 7.4% in Europe Amid Market Slowdown

Hyundai Motor Group reported a 7.4% year-over-year decline in European new car sales for February, with 73,294 vehicles sold.

The European Automobile Manufacturers’ Association (ACEA) released data on Tuesday showing that Hyundai sold 37,210 vehicles and Kia sold 36,084 cars last month, representing decreases of 7.2% and 7.7%, respectively, compared to the previous year.

Hyundai Motor Group’s European market share dipped to 7.6% last month, down 0.4% year-over-year. This positioned the group fourth, following Volkswagen Group (26.8%), Stellantis Group (16.2%), and Renault Group (11.1%).

Toyota Group (7.4%), BMW Group (7.2%), and Mercedes-Benz (4.8%) came next. Hyundai Motor Group has maintained its fourth-place ranking in Europe for four consecutive years since 2021.

Last month, Hyundai’s best-selling models in Europe were the Tucson (7,724 units), Kona (5,506 units), and i20 (4,652 units). Kia’s top-selling models were the Sportage (9,485 units), Ceed (6,887 units), and EV3 (5,063 units).

In the eco-friendly vehicle segment, which includes hybrid, plug-in hybrid, and electric vehicles, Hyundai’s top-selling models were the Tucson (4,889 units), Kona (4,621 units), and Inster (1,694 units). In comparison, Kia’s top-selling models were EV3 (5,063 units), Niro (3,490 units), and EV6 (1,324 units).

Hyundai Motor Group’s cumulative European sales for January and February totaled 156,526 units, down 5.5% from last year. Hyundai’s sales decreased by 3.9% to 78,680 units, while Kia experienced a 7.1% drop to 77,846 units.

As a result, Hyundai Motor Group’s market share for the first two months of the year stood at 8.0%, a slight decline of 0.2% year-over-year. This placed the group fourth behind Volkswagen Group (26.8%), Stellantis Group (15.8%), and Renault Group (10.5%).

The European new car market saw total sales of 963,540 units last month, a 3.1% decrease from February of the previous year. Cumulative sales for January and February reached 1,959,580 units, reflecting a 2.6% decline compared to last year.
