Google reportedly pays Samsung Electronics a substantial sum to install its artificial intelligence (AI) model, Gemini, on Samsung devices.

According to Bloomberg on Monday, Google began making payments to Samsung in January this year for including Gemini.

Peter Fitzgerald, Vice President of Google’s Platform and Device Partnerships, testified in the ongoing antitrust trial in federal court in Washington, D.C., over Google’s dominance in the internet search market.

Fitzgerald stated that the agreement between Google and Samsung will remain in effect for at least two years. Under the deal, Google pays a fixed monthly fee per device with Gemini installed and shares a portion of its in-app advertising revenue with Samsung.

The exact amount Google is paying Samsung was not disclosed during the trial.

It was previously revealed that from 2020 to 2023, Google paid $8 billion over four years to preinstall Google Search, the Play Store, and Google Assistant on Samsung mobile devices.

At the time, the court ruled that Google was abusing its dominance in the Android app market and should not block competitors from entering.
