SK hynix is set to establish an AI solutions company in the United States, the epicenter of the artificial intelligence industry. The plan involves transforming Solidigm, its U.S. NAND flash production subsidiary, into a control tower for AI investment and solutions. A new subsidiary will be created to manage the enterprise SSD (eSSD) and high-capacity NAND business operations.

On Wednesday, SK hynix announced its initiative to launch an AI solutions company, tentatively named “AI Company” (AI Co.). This new entity will emerge from Solidigm’s restructuring, with both the corporate name and mission subject to future changes.

The existing NAND and SSD operations will be transferred to a newly formed subsidiary. This subsidiary will retain the name “Solidigm Inc.” to maintain business continuity. SK hynix plans to invest 10 billion USD in response to funding requests from AI Co.

SK hynix explained that the creation of the AI solutions company aims to leverage its proven AI memory technology, exemplified by high-bandwidth memory (HBM). The goal is to evolve beyond being a mere memory manufacturer and become a key partner in the AI data center ecosystem.

The company added that it intends to bolster its memory competitiveness through strategic investments and partnerships with AI-capable firms. Ultimately, SK hynix aims to grow AI Co. into an entity capable of providing comprehensive solutions across the entire AI data center sector.

The United States is the hub of the global tech industry and a hotbed for AI innovation, with fierce competition for market leadership. SK hynix plans to invest in cutting-edge AI companies in the U.S. and expand collaborations, positioning itself as a core player in the AI ecosystem that helps solve the AI data bottleneck.

Moreover, SK hynix is exploring ways to leverage AI Co.’s capabilities to create synergies across the SK Group. The company also anticipates that this initiative will boost the competitiveness of both the domestic AI and semiconductor industries.

SK hynix said the establishment of AI Co. was a strategic move to secure diverse opportunities in the AI data center ecosystem as the company approaches the next era of AI, and added that it would work closely with key partners in the U.S. AI sector to proactively create value that anticipates and meets customer needs.
