Stanford University has revised its count of Notable Artificial Intelligence (AI) Models developed in South Korea in 2025, increasing the number from 5 to 8.

On Thursday, the Ministry of Science and Information and Communications Technology (ICT) announced that Stanford University’s Human-Centered AI Institute (HAI) plans to update its AI Index 2026 evaluation. The revision will increase the number of notable AI models released in South Korea last year from the previously reported 5 to 8.

In its earlier report, HAI had ranked South Korea third, with 5 notable AI models, behind the U.S. (50 models) and China (30 models).

Following a request from the Ministry of Science and ICT for additional verification of South Korean AI models, HAI adjusted the count to 8.

The 8 AI models expected to be included are: Upstage’s Solar Open 100B, LG AI Research’s K-Exa One, Exa One 4.0 (32B), Exa One Pass 2.0, Exa One Deep (32B), NC AI’s Bae Ki, SK Telecom’s A.DOT X (A.X) K1, and Naver Cloud’s HyperClova X Seed 32B.

The Ministry of Science and ICT noted that 5 of these models are outcomes of an independent AI foundation model project launched last year. This development indicates that South Korean AI models are gaining significant recognition for their performance on the global stage.
