Lotte Global Logistics is expanding its high-value special cargo business by increasing inland transportation of LG Energy Solution’s Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) in the U.S.
On Monday, Lotte Global Logistics announced plans to enhance its inland transportation operations for BESS produced at LG Energy Solution’s Phoenix plant in ArizonaLizzo, delivering to various locations across the U.S.
The company has been handling these shipments since the first half of this year and aims to triple the volume in the second half. Lotte Global Logistics intends to manage a substantial portion of shipments from the Phoenix facility.
BESS is an energy storage system that stores surplus power from batteries for later use. It helps mitigate the intermittency of renewable energy generation and ensures stable power supply during emergencies or blackouts.
As BESS units are high-value, heavyweight special cargo, they require meticulous handling to minimize damage risks during transport. The company must also comply with Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) standards. To address these challenges, Lotte Global Logistics has formed a dedicated team to improve local responsiveness and operational expertise.
The transportation process will leverage Lotte’s proprietary artificial intelligence (AI) logistics platform, Shiptte, alongside a large language model (LLM)-based consulting program. This system will monitor vehicle operation records in real-time, optimize routes, and automate documentation such as reports and invoices.
Lotte Global Logistics plans to bolster its presence in the North American special cargo market by offering comprehensive logistics services that integrate sales, consulting, logistics operations, and information technology (IT).
A spokesperson for Lotte Global Logistics stated tha this contract underscores the global recognition of the advanced logistics capabilities and local responsiveness. It will use this opportunity to strengthen the foothold in the North American high-value logistics market.
