Hyundai Glovis has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Philadelphia Port Authority and local developers for the expansion of the Philadelphia Port and collaboration on finished vehicle terminal operations, the company announced on Monday.

This agreement allows Hyundai Glovis to extend its exclusive site contract at the Philadelphia Port, a key logistics hub for finished vehicles on the U.S. East Coast, until 2056. The company will also venture into new site development and finished vehicle terminal operations.

Once the new site development is complete, Hyundai Glovis expects to increase its finished vehicle logistics area from approximately 990,000 square meters to 1.12 million square meters. This expansion will boost the company’s vehicle storage capacity from 33,600 to 37,600 units.

Hyundai Glovis has been operating finished vehicle import and export logistics at the Philadelphia Port since 2010. In 2019, the company significantly expanded its presence by opening the Southport yard, a 627,000-square-meter facility dedicated to finished vehicles.

The Philadelphia Port has been instrumental as a logistics hub on the East Coast, playing a crucial role in maintaining global supply chain stability. When the Baltimore Port operations were disrupted due to the bridge collapse in Maryland in 2024, Hyundai Glovis successfully utilized the Philadelphia Port as an alternative logistics center, ensuring uninterrupted vehicle logistics operations.

Looking ahead, Hyundai Glovis plans to diversify its logistics services by adding car carrier terminal operations to its existing portfolio of finished vehicle transportation and storage. This strategic move aims to strengthen its end-to-end (E2E) integrated logistics services, encompassing maritime transport, terminal operations, storage, and inland transportation, thereby enhancing its competitive edge in the North American logistics market.

A spokesperson for Hyundai Glovis stated that it’s committed to developing Philadelphia into a pivotal hub in the East Coast logistics supply chain, offering the clients enhanced stability and efficiency in integrated logistics services.

In related news, Hyundai Glovis reported record-breaking quarterly revenue of 8.705 trillion KRW (about 6.53 billion USD) in the second quarter of this year. The company has been lauded for its robust supply chain management capabilities, particularly in light of heightened global geopolitical tensions. However, rising oil prices have impacted the bottom line, with operating profit declining by 8.1% compared to the same period last year.
