The teaser trailer for Black Nuns (directed by Kwon Hyuk Jae) has been released.
On Monday, the team behind Black Nuns followed up on the buzz created by their initial launch trailer by releasing an intense teaser trailer.
Black Nuns is the second installment in the Black Priests series. It tells the story of individuals who perform a forbidden ritual to save a boy possessed by a powerful demon. This film stands out with its unique premise: nuns, whose roles traditionally prevent them from performing exorcisms, take the lead in this forbidden act. This fresh twist has already sparked great anticipation.
The newly released teaser begins with the tolling of church bells echoing across a cityscape, drawing viewers in. It then introduces Sister Yunia, played by Song Hye Kyo, resolutely heading somewhere, and Sister Michaela, played by Jeon Yeo Been, preparing for the ritual. Their determined actions heighten curiosity. The phrase “The forbidden ritual begins” teases a dramatic conflict where, in the absence of a proper exorcist to confront a 12th-class demon, nuns—unordained and thus prohibited by Catholic doctrine—step forward to carry out the ritual. This elevates the tension and drama of the film.
Adding to the intrigue are trusted actors who bring depth to their roles: Lee Jin Wook as Father Paolo, who opposes the exorcism and believes that the boy can be saved through medical means, and Moon Woo Jin as Hee Joon, the boy possessed by a powerful demon. Their presence further amplifies the film’s credibility and appeal. This teaser trailer, capturing the perilous journey of those risking everything to save a boy, raises expectations for Black Nuns. With an expanded universe and gripping storyline, the film is set to dominate theaters in the new year.
Black Nuns is a new chapter in Korean occult cinema. It follows in the footsteps of The Priests and is the latest work by the acclaimed production house Zip Cinema, known for Default, Master, and Broker. Black Nuns is slated for release on January 24, 2025.
