A Japanese tech publication reported on Monday that LOVERSE, a new AI-powered dating app, is making waves by offering even married individuals the chance to experience the thrill of romance without guilt.

While the app’s setup mirrors that of typical dating platforms, users need only input basic information, such as their gender, nickname, and interests. The AI then crafts a profile and facilitates message exchanges. However, critics argue that the AI-generated profiles lack depth and authenticity, appearing too perfect to be believable.

These virtual partners introduce themselves with cookie-cutter descriptions, listing jobs, names, and hobbies in a formulaic manner. Their profile pictures, while flawless, fail to capture human nuances. The ease of matching—even pairing users in their 40s with AI models in their 20s—further undermines the app’s credibility. Users report that the AI’s initial messages, often lengthy and self-centered, leave them feeling drained rather than engaged.

The jury is still out on whether AI can truly replicate the complexities of human emotions in romantic relationships. While LOVERSE’s innovative approach has garnered attention, it falls short of fully capturing the nuanced excitement and emotional depth of human connections. The concept of guilt-free AI dating for married individuals remains a contentious and unresolved issue in the tech world.
