The Seoul World Fireworks Festival 2026 illuminated the skies over Yeouido Hangang Park in Seoul on September 5.
This year’s spectacle featured teams from three nations: South Korea, the U.S., and the United Kingdom. The pyrotechnic display commenced at 8:00 p.m. (Korean time) and continued for approximately 70 minutes, painting Seoul’s night sky with a symphony of lights and music unique to each country.
The British team opened the show, dazzling spectators with intricate fireworks choreographed to high-energy music and a kaleidoscope of colors. The American team followed, presenting a grandiose display set against a backdrop of classical compositions.
South Korea’s team closed the event with a breathtaking finale inspired by Van Gogh’s The Starry Night. They employed a decalcomania technique, launching fireworks simultaneously from both sides, and incorporated media art-inspired elements for a stunning conclusion.
This year’s festival expanded its scope, with fireworks spanning from Mapo Bridge to Hangang Bridge. A novel decalcomania approach was introduced, with all teams launching symmetrical displays from both sides of the river.
Organizers moved the festival up by about three weeks, taking into account the Chuseok holiday and anticipated foreign tourist influx. Crowds thronged Yeouido and the Han River area, eager to witness this autumnal celebration of light.
