Dongwha Pharmaceutical recently held a launch symposium for Ecrac Gel, its groundbreaking treatment for underarm hyperhidrosis, the company announced on Monday.
Ecrac Gel is the first specialized prescription medication in Korea designed to treat excessive underarm sweating. Given the previously limited treatment options available to clinicians, Ecrac Gel is poised to significantly address the unmet needs of patients seeking effective solutions.
The symposium, which took place on January 10 at the Andaz Hotel in Seoul’s upscale Gangnam district, drew approximately 100 dermatologists from across the country. Dr. Jo Hang-rae, former President of the Korean Dermatological Association, and Dr. Lee Won-joo, current President of the Korean Acne Injection Society, co-chaired the event. Leading experts from Japan were invited to share their insights as keynote speakers.
Dr. Yuichiro Oshima, a professor of dermatology at Aichi Medical University and a key contributor to Japan’s guidelines for treating underarm hyperhidrosis, delivered the opening presentation. He provided a comprehensive overview of the current landscape of hyperhidrosis treatment in Japan.
Dr. Oshima stated that underarm hyperhidrosis is a condition that significantly impacts the quality of life for many patients, not only in Japan but also in Korea. He added that the introduction of Ecrac Gel in Korea represents a major step forward in providing tangible relief for those struggling with this condition.
Dr. Huh Uk-kang, director of Huh Dermatology Clinic in Japan, followed with a presentation on how Ecrac Gel is revolutionizing the approach to treating underarm hyperhidrosis.
Dr. Huh explained that the advent of a user-friendly yet potent topical treatment has transformed the landscape of underarm hyperhidrosis management. Since Ecrac Gel’s launch in Japan, it has seen a notable shift towards more proactive treatment of hyperhidrosis among both patients and healthcare providers.
A spokesperson for Dongwha Pharmaceutical emphasized that as Korea’s first prescription medication specifically targeting underarm hyperhidrosis, Ecrac Gel offers a compelling combination of reduced side effects and enhanced ease of use. It is confident that this launch will provide patients with a safer, more convenient treatment option, potentially improving their overall quality of life.
Ecrac Gel, developed by Japan’s Kaken Pharmaceutical, is designed for once-daily application to affected areas, offering a simple yet effective treatment regimen.
Dongwha Pharmaceutical secured an exclusive distribution agreement for Ecrac Gel with Kaken Pharmaceutical in June 2023. The product received approval from Korea’s Ministry of Food and Drug Safety in August of the same year, with its market debut slated for later this month.
