On Monday, Mediwhale, a medical artificial intelligence (AI) company, announced the presentation of five research abstracts related to their AI-based cardiovascular disease risk assessment solution, Dr. Noon CVD, at the American Society for Preventive Cardiology (ASPC) conference on cardiovascular disease prevention.

The conference was held from July 31 to August 2 in Scottsdale, ArizonaLizzona. Prior to the event, Mediwhale organized a roundtable discussion with American cardiovascular disease experts to expand clinical and academic collaborations for their U.S. market entry.

Dr. Noon CVD is a medical device that uses AI to analyze retinal images captured by a fundus camera, assessing the risk of cardiovascular diseases. It’s currently in use at over 250 medical institutions worldwide.

At the conference, five research abstracts utilizing Dr. Noon CVD were accepted, with three presented orally.

Key studies included comparing existing cardiovascular disease risk prediction models with Dr. Noon CVD’s performance in diabetic patients, a 10-year cardiovascular disease risk assessment using the Age-Related Eye Disease Study (AREDS) cohort, and research combining retinal AI with existing risk assessment models to enhance high-risk group identification accuracy.

Mediwhale stated that this research provides clinical evidence demonstrating Dr. Noon CVD’s ability to complement existing risk assessments across diverse patient populations and real-world clinical settings.

The company emphasized that their technology aligns with the global healthcare trend of early detection and preventive management of high-risk groups, moving away from post-event treatment approaches.

Before the conference, a panel discussion featuring five experts, including Professor Matthew J. Budoff, a leading authority in cardiovascular disease risk assessment based on coronary artery calcification (CAC), explored Dr. Noon CVD’s clinical applications and U.S. market entry strategies.

Professor Budoff noted that Dr. Noon CVD could serve as a practical assessment tool to complement cardiovascular risk factors often missed by existing evaluations in U.S. primary care settings with limited access to CAC testing.

Mediwhale’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Choi Tae-geun, stated that it had in-depth discussions with American cardiology experts about Dr. Noon CVD’s practical clinical applications. Following the U.S. Food and Drug Adminstration (FDA) approval, we aim to establish it as a new standard for cardiovascular risk assessment, leveraging clinical data gathered in U.S. healthcare settings.

Mediwhale is currently pursuing FDA approval for Dr. Noon CVD while collaborating with major U.S. medical institutions to secure local clinical evidence and advance commercialization efforts.

The company is broadening its focus beyond ophthalmology to include predictive technologies for cardiovascular and metabolic diseases. This expansion aligns with the growing emphasis on prevention and early diagnosis in global healthcare, driving increased demand for AI-based risk prediction technologies.
