South Korea’s Ministry of Food and Drug Safety (MFDS) has approved Vonjo Capsule (Pacritinib Citrate), a rare medication for treating myelofibrosis.

On Thursday, the MFDS announced that it had designated this drug as the 32nd product under the Global Innovative Product Fast Track Review System (GIFT), expediting its review to ensure swift availability in clinical settings.

Myelofibrosis is a type of bone marrow cancer characterized by progressive scarring of bone marrow tissue, which impairs its ability to produce blood cells normally.

Vonjo Capsule is indicated for adult patients with secondary myelofibrosis that develops after primary myelofibrosis, polycythemia vera, or essential thrombocythemia. It is expected to offer new treatment options for severely ill patients who cannot use existing therapies.

The MFDS stated that it will continue to leverage the regulatory science expertise to expedite the review and approval of treatments with proven safety and efficacy, aiming to expand treatment opportunities for patients in need.
