Shinsegae Food is set to make its debut in the U.S. market with its flagship summer health food, Ginseng Chicken Soup (Samgyetang).
The company announced on Wednesday that it will ship approximately 8,000 units of Samgyetang to the U.S. in July.
Launched in 2022, Nutritional Samgyetang is a convenient health food that showcases restaurant-quality taste and nutrition. It features a whole domestically sourced chicken simmered with glutinous rice, ginseng, and garlic in a broth made from local vegetables. The product has established itself as a leading health food option in South Korea, with cumulative sales reaching 500,000 units last year.
The exported product will be available in over 100 brick-and-mortar stores across the U.S., including major Korean supermarkets such as Mega Mart, Zion Market, Han Nam Chain, Arirang Market, and Gaju Market. It will also be sold in ethnic markets like 99 Ranch, Tokyo Central, Little Tokyo, and GW, catering to the high demand for Korean cuisine in these areas.
This U.S. export marks a significant step for Shinsegae Food as it aims to accelerate its global convenience food business expansion. The company plans to increase overseas sales of products that have proven successful in the Korean market. It will gradually expand its export portfolio and distribution channels based on local consumer feedback.
A spokesperson for Shinsegae Food stated that they are committed to diversifying our export product lineup with items that have demonstrated market potential. This will be achieved through ongoing local feedback and market analysis. Additionally, it will focus on securing local distribution networks and enhancing the product quality to meet international standards.
