Vozinha, the surprise sensation of the International Federation of Association Football (FIFA) North and Central America World Cup, has been voted into the tournament’s Dream Team by fans.
FIFA unveiled the fan-selected Dream Team for the North and Central America World Cup on Thursday.
The 40-year-old Vozinha, who guarded the net for World Cup debutants Cabo Verde, garnered 39.6% of the votes, edging out Spain’s Unai Simon, who was named the tournament’s top goalkeeper.
In his World Cup debut against Spain in the group stage opener, Vozinha displayed cat-like reflexes, making a series of crucial saves to secure a 0-0 draw.
Notably, Spain’s only winless match in this tournament came against Cabo Verde.
Vozinha’s heroics helped Cabo Verde draw all three of their group stage matches, propelling them to the knockout stage as the group runners-up.
In the round of 32 clash with Argentina, Vozinha continued to shine, calmly fending off attacks and forcing the game into extra time. Despite Cabo Verde’s eventual loss due to an own goal in extra time, Vozinha’s performance earned widespread acclaim.
Vozinha joins Norwegian striker Erling Haaland as the only players in the Dream Team who didn’t reach the semifinals.
The Dream Team’s star-studded attack features Haaland alongside France’s Kylian Mbappé, who clinched the Golden Boot with 10 goals and 4 assists, and Argentina’s Lionel Messi, who notched 8 goals and 4 assists.
The midfield trio consists of Spain’s Rodri, the tournament’s Golden Ball winner, France’s Michael Olise, who topped the assist charts, and England’s Jude Bellingham.
The defensive line boasts Spain’s fullback duo Pedro Porro and Marc Cucurella, Argentina’s Lisandro Martinez, and France’s Dayot Upamecano.
