Japanese pitcher Yoshinobu Yamamoto of the LA Dodgers delivered a solid eight-inning performance, allowing just three runs, but was saddled with the loss due to lack of run support.
On August 2, Yamamoto took the mound at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles, California, where the Dodgers fell 2-3 to the Boston Red Sox in a heartbreaking comeback defeat.
The Dodgers, just one win shy of the 70-victory milestone this season, dropped to 69-42 after falling to Boston for the second straight day.
Meanwhile, the Red Sox extended their winning streak to four games, improving their record to 59-51.
In his first-ever matchup against Boston since joining MLB in 2024, Yamamoto showcased his endurance by tossing 96 pitches over eight innings. He allowed four hits (including two homers), walked one, and struck out three, but ultimately suffered his seventh loss of the season against 11 wins.
Yamamoto was stung by Rafael Devers, who launched solo shots in both the first and fourth innings, forcing the Japanese ace to hang his head.
With the game knotted at 2-2 in the eighth, Yamamoto hit a rough patch.
He surrendered a double to Andruw Monasterio followed by a single to Jarren Duran, finding himself in a no-out, runners-on-the-corners jam. Although he induced a double-play grounder from Kolten Wong, the go-ahead run still crossed the plate.
Despite racking up ten hits, including a solo homer, the Dodgers’ offense sputtered, managing just two runs. Shohei Ohtani, slotted in as the designated hitter, went 1-for-3 with a walk.
