A Virtual Taekwondo Joint Training Camp is set to take place at Taekwondo Park from August 27 to 29, gearing up for the 2026 Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games.
The Taekwondo Promotion Foundation announced on Monday that they will conduct competition-focused education and training for Asian Games participants at Taekwondo Park, which has been designated as the Virtual Taekwondo Central Training Center. The camp is organized by World Taekwondo (WT) and managed by the Taekwondo Promotion Foundation.
Virtual Taekwondo, making its debut as an official event at the 2026 Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games, blends traditional Taekwondo techniques with state-of-the-art virtual reality (VR) technology.
Competitors will don VR headsets and five motion sensors attached to their upper body, knees, and calves as they face off in a virtual arena measuring 4m by 4m.
Matches last 60 seconds and follow a best-of-three format. Victory is achieved by either depleting the opponent’s stamina gauge or having more stamina remaining when time expires.
The joint training camp will host about 30 participants from eight countries, including eight of the 16 athletes slated for the Asian Games and four international referees. The program will cover virtual Taekwondo officiating, competition protocols, and hands-on match training.
Taekwondo Park was named the WT Virtual Taekwondo Central Training Center in February. The Taekwondo Promotion Foundation and World Taekwondo have since partnered to boost the global competitiveness and popularity of virtual Taekwondo.
A spokesperson for the Taekwondo Promotion Foundation stated that they’re planning to roll out more programs at Taekwondo Park to develop virtual Taekwondo, including certification courses for match operators and training programs for coaches and athletes.
The foundation aims to complete construction of the Virtual Taekwondo Central Training Center within Taekwondo Park by November, with an inauguration ceremony planned before year’s end.
Kim Joong-heon, director of the Taekwondo Promotion Foundation, remarked that launching this joint training camp for virtual Taekwondo, now an official Asian Games event, at Taekwondo Park is truly significant. It’s committed to ensuring Taekwondo Park leads the way in advancing virtual Taekwondo.
