Singer and actress Nana has addressed the so-called lip filler controversy that erupted following the release of the Netflix original series “Scandal.”
On Tuesday, Nana took to a paid fan interaction platform to respond to viewer criticisms, stating that if her lips caused discomfort to viewers, she takes full responsibility for that.
She continued that she now realizes that her personal choice wasn’t appropriate for her role as an actress.
Nana expressed empathy for her fans, saying that she understands that her supporters must be hurt seeing the harsh reviews that she has received, and for that, she’s even more apologetic.
She then made a commitment to her fans, promising that she’ll work hard to ensure it can all hear more positive feedback in the future.
The entire eight-episode run of the Netflix series “Scandal” was released on September 18. The show centers around Lady Jo (portrayed by Son Ye Jin), a woman with exceptional talents confined by societal expectations, and Jo Won (played by Ji Chang Wook), Joseon’s most notorious romantic con artist. The series follows their audacious and perilous romantic wager, which intertwines with the story of Hee-yeon (played by Nana).
In the series, Nana plays Hee-yeon, a widow who has remained faithful to her deceased husband for many years. Following the show’s debut, some viewers criticized Nana’s fuller lips, arguing that they seemed anachronistic in a period drama set in the Joseon era.
It’s worth noting that Nana has previously been recognized for her striking beauty, having topped international polls for Most Beautiful Faces multiple times.
