Son Heung-min (LAFC) aims to set a new national team scoring record as he starts for the second straight game against Uruguay. Lee Kang-in (Atletico Madrid), who rested during coach Roberto Moreno’s debut, will make his first start on the right wing.
Moreno’s squad will face Uruguay in the second of four friendlies on Monday at 8:00 p.m. (KST) at Seoul World Cup Stadium.
Sticking with the 4-4-2 formation that delivered a 3-0 win over Ecuador on September 24, Moreno has made just four changes to his starting lineup.
In the Ecuador match, South Korea’s front two of Son and Oh Hyun-kyu (Besiktas) led the charge, with all three goals coming in a second-half blitz.
Son and Oh will again spearhead the attack. Fresh off a stunning free-kick goal against Ecuador, Son takes his place up top for the second consecutive match.
Son’s strike against Ecuador was his 57th in international play. One goal tonight would see him tie Cha Bum-kun’s all-time record of 58, while a brace would make Son the outright leader in South Korean soccer history.
European-based wingers Lee Kang-in and Hwang Hee-chan (Schalke 04) will man the flanks. Lee sat out the Ecuador match entirely, while Hwang came on as a second-half sub.
The midfield pairing features veteran Lee Jae-sung (Mainz) alongside Kim Bong-soo from K League side Daejeon Hana Citizen. Kim made an impact off the bench against Ecuador, assisting on Lee Dong-kyung’s clincher.
The back four, from left to right, consists of Lee Tae-seok (Austria Wien), Kim Min-jae (Bayern Munich), Lee Han-beom (Club Brugge), and Seol Young-woo (Augsburg). Lee Tae-seok replaces Jo Hyun-taek (Ulsan) at left-back from the previous match.
Kim Seung-kyu, who kept a clean sheet against Ecuador, retains his spot between the posts.
Hwang In-beom (FC Porto), absent from the Ecuador game, will again watch from the stands alongside Baek Seung-ho (Birmingham) and Song Bum-keun (Jeonbuk).
