Girl group IVE is set to make a powerful comeback as Girl Heroes, promising to take the music scene by storm once again.
IVE will pre-release the title track from their fifth mini-album, Looks Can Kill, on various music platforms at 6:00 p.m. (KST) on Monday.
In their latest offering, Looks Can Kill, IVE embraces the concept of being heroes capable of delivering a knockout punch simply by existing. This IVE-style Girl Hero theme permeates the entire album, with the title track serving as the most direct representation of this identity. Staying true to their signature theme of self-assurance, IVE’s new song conveys the empowering message that anyone can be the protagonist and hero of their own life story.
The lyrics, crafted by Seo Ji-eum, Lil Cherry, and IVE member Rei, perfectly capture the group’s distinctive assertive attitude and refreshingly candid charm. The track, rooted in electronic dance-pop, features a heavy, gritty bassline complemented by dynamic drums and rich electronic elements, creating a bold and confident atmosphere that perfectly embodies the song’s theme.
This marks IVE’s first comeback in about eight months, following the release of “REVIVE+” in February. Building on the success of their more mature and charismatic concepts like “Black Hole” and “Bang Bang” from their previous work, IVE now introduces the energetic ‘Girl Hero’, showcasing a completely different side of their artistry.
What’s particularly noteworthy is IVE’s introduction of the Girl Herㅐ as their latest alter ego, following their successful adoption of various girl character concepts in the past. After positive receptions to concepts like Magical Girl (“Ascendio”) and High Teen Queen (“Love Dive”), IVE’s transformation into Girl Heroes reveals a stronger and bolder appeal. This shift from their previously established fantastical and lovable image offers a refreshing change that’s sure to captivate K-pop fans.
Moreover, through Looks Can Kill, IVE aims to redefine their group identity by reinforcing their message of self-confidence and autonomy. Fans are eagerly anticipating how the group will reinterpret their girl character framework within this album and how they’ll expand their musical spectrum in the process.
IVE will kick off their comeback by pre-releasing the title track on Monday, building anticipation for the full album release of Looks Can Kill on October 26.
