Short track speed skating star Choi Min-jeong (Seongnam City Hall) clinched a silver medal in the women’s 1500m at the 2026-27 International Skating Union (ISU) Short Track World Tour’s second event.
On Monday, Choi crossed the finish line in 2 minutes 22.741 seconds during the women’s 1500m final at Montreal’s Maurice Richard Arena, securing second place behind Italy’s Elisa Confortola (2:22.683).
Italy’s Gloria Ioriati rounded out the podium, claiming bronze with a time of 2:23.168.
Choi, who had maintained a leading position early on, slipped to third after being overtaken by Canada’s Florence Brunelle and Confortola with two laps to go.
In a thrilling final lap, Choi surged past Brunelle on the inside to reclaim second place. Despite a valiant effort to catch Confortola, she ran out of track and had to settle for silver.
Earlier in the day, Choi narrowly missed the 500m final, finishing third in her semifinal heat. She later placed second in the B Final.
Choi also competed in the mixed 2000m relay, securing first place in the B Final after the team’s elimination in the previous day’s semifinals.
This performance caps off Choi’s impressive showing at the event, adding to her gold in the 1000m and silver in the 3000m relay from the previous day (November 1), for a total haul of one gold and two silver medals.
Choi, who announced her retirement from the national team at the season’s end, continues to showcase her world-class skills, following up her one gold, two silver, and one bronze medal performance from the first event.

In the men’s competition, Team Korea secured bronze in the 5000m relay. The squad, featuring Bae Seo-chan (Goyang City Hall), Lee Gyu-ho (Korea National Sport University), Kim Tae-sung, and Shin Dong-min (both from Hwaseong City Hall), clocked 7:06.217 in the final, finishing behind Canada (6:59.327) and China (7:01.305).
This marks the men’s relay team’s second consecutive podium finish, following their gold medal performance in last week’s opener.
However, the individual events proved challenging for the Korean men, with no medals to show. After coming up empty in the 500m and 1500m the previous day, Shin Dong-min was the lone Korean to reach the 1000m final, ultimately finishing fourth.
The men’s team competed without their ace, Lim Jong-eon (Goyang City Hall), who was sidelined due to a lingering hip injury from the first event.
With the Canadian leg of the World Tour now complete, the short track team will return home to regroup before gearing up for the third event on home ice.
The upcoming competition is set for November 20-22 at Seoul’s Mokdong Ice Rink in Yangcheon-gu.
