Pyongyang Crowds Swell to 100,000 in Anti-U.S. Demonstration

On June 25, North Korea held mass rallies throughout the country, including Pyongyang, to mark the Day of Struggle Against U.S. Imperialism. It was reported that 100,000 people gathered in Pyongyang alone, fueling hostility against the U.S. and South Korea.

North Korea’s Workers’ Party media, Rodong Sinmun, reported on June 26 that a Pyongyang City Mass Rally was held at the Rungrado 1st of May Stadium, emphasizing “The steadfast will to resist of our sovereign and powerful nation is erupting like a volcano as we approach June 25.”

On page two, the media reported that mass rallies were held in various regions, including South Pyongan Province, North Pyongan Province, South Hwanghae Province, North Hwanghae Province, Chagang Province, Kangwon Province, South Hamgyong Province, North Hamgyong Province, Ryanggang Province, Nampo City, Rason City, and Kaesong City. The media emphasized, “Let’s settle the anti-American confrontation passed down throughout generations with the power of the people’s resistance.”

On page three, news of a housewarming gathering at the Bonglin Farm in Pakchon County was reported. The media also urged party workers through a column titled “A Revolutionary and Responsible Business Atmosphere Should Overflow in the Party,” stating, “You must foresee and develop the tasks you are responsible for.”

Page four reported that the Pyongyang People’s Consumer Goods Exhibition started the day before at the Pyongyang Underground Store. This exhibition reportedly featured around 250,000 items of over 1,000 different types, contributed by 140 units. Moreover, it was reported that Kim Jong Un sent a birthday gift to Hong Seok Won, a 100-year-old resident of Deokheung-ri, Kangso District.

On page five, agricultural technical measures were introduced to minimize damage from drought and high temperatures. North Korea’s Head of the Agricultural Science Institute Baek Sun Sik emphasized the need for a strong strategy to water crops by mobilizing all irrigation facilities and means, including pumping and rainwater, especially in corn fields.

On page six, the content of a white paper titled “Uncompromising Damage Compensation Standards, Declaring an Unchanging Will to Retaliate Against the U.S.,” released by the U.S. Research Institute of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, was featured. The institute declared, “As we recall the historical facts documented by the U.S., we will settle the score with the sworn enemies who have committed heinous atrocities against the Republic, unmatched in their scale, persistence, and brutality.”
