As North Korea approaches the end of its Anti-American Joint Struggle Month (from June 25 to July 27), it is heightening the atmosphere of hostility towards the United States.
Today, the North Korean state newspaper Rodong Sinmun featured a front-page letter sent to Kim Jong Un. The letter came from pro-North Korean organizations based in the Asia-Pacific, Europe, the Arab world, Africa, and Latin America.
In the letter to Kim, the organizations criticized the United States, saying, “Instead of learning lessons from the crushing defeat in the Korean War, the U.S. has not abandoned its ambition to dominate the world and continues unprecedented political and military provocations against the Republic.” They also defended North Korea by saying, “Despite the worst conditions of relentless pressure and military threats from hostile forces, the Republic has significantly strengthened its self-defensive military capabilities to firmly protect its sovereignty, security interests, and peace in the region and the world.”
The letter continued, “Through this platform, we affirm that the U.S. and its followers’ hostile actions against North Korea are the fundamental cause of the extreme deterioration of the situation on the Korean Peninsula. In today’s world, where the logic of power prevails, the Republic’s strongest military power, centered on nuclear forces, is a strong guarantee to prevent the danger of a new war.”
“We will continue to actively support the righteous struggle of the Korean people to crush all hostile forces’ schemes and realize the country’s independent development and global peace and stability,” they added.
The newspaper reported that the international forum supporting the just struggle of the Korean people for sovereignty and peace was held in Egypt, lasting four days starting from the 25th of last month. During this forum, a letter was adopted and sent to Kim, and a “call to the progressive peoples of the world” was announced.
The chair of the Arab Regional Committee claimed in a speech that the Korean War was both a heroic struggle by the Korean people to defend their sovereignty, territory, and system against a powerful foreign imperialist invasion and a total war between progress and reaction to protect socialism and democracy from the United States’ ambitious quest for global dominance.
On that day, the newspaper also published the full text of the appeal, which included calls for actively conducting international activities to expose and condemn the U.S.’s crimes, fighting to thwart anti-Republic hostile actions, and fully supporting North Korea’s legitimate self-defensive measures.
Every year, North Korea designates the period from June 25, marking the outbreak of the Korean War, to July 27, Victory Day (the anniversary of the Korean War Armistice), as Anti-American Joint Struggle Month. During this time, the country organizes events and rallies to raise anti-American sentiment among its residents.
In particular, they highlighted their support worldwide by raising anti-U.S. voices in an International Forum format to justify their claims. It is expected that North Korea will continue to encourage anti-American and anti-imperialist sentiments until the end of the Anti-American Joint Struggle Month on July 27.
