North Korea’s Supreme People’s Assembly Standing Committee has reviewed and adopted new legislation, including the Labor Capability Medical Assessment Law.

The Workers’ Party’s official newspaper, Rodong Sinmun, reported on Friday that the 36th plenary session of the 14th Supreme People’s Assembly Standing Committee was held on Thursday at the Mansudae Assembly Hall.

The meeting agenda included the review and adoption of the enforcement law for the 20×10 Regional Development Policy, the Biosecurity Law, and the Labor Capability Medical Assessment Law. Proposals for the recall and election of Supreme Court judges and people’s jurors were also put forward. The Legislative Committee of the Supreme People’s Assembly presented a report on the fundamental contents of the relevant bills under review.

Specific details of these bills were not disclosed. The Labor Capability Medical Assessment Law is presumed to establish procedures for evaluating the physical and mental injuries sustained by workers in accidents and the extent of their work capacity loss. This legislation is likely a response to the numerous injuries suffered by workers during the extensive construction projects carried out across North Korea in recent years.

The meeting was presided over by Choe Ryong Hae, Chairman of the Supreme People’s Assembly Standing Committee, with Vice Chairmen Kang Yunseok and Kim Hochul in attendance. Officials from the Cabinet Secretariat, ministries, and central agencies were present as observers.
