North Korean leader Kim Jong Un visited a recently completed seaside aquaculture facility in Rakwon County, which was constructed in just over 190 days since groundbreaking.

The official newspaper of the Workers’ Party of Korea, Rodong Sinmun, reported on Wednesday that Comrade Kim toured the newly finished seaside aquaculture facility and the fishermen’s cultural housing district in Rakwon County on Tuesday.

Accompanying Kim were Party Secretary Jo Yong Won, department heads Kim Jae Ryong and Kim Yong Su, as well as deputy directors Pak Sung Chol and Kim Yo Jong, with military commanders involved in the construction project greeting the delegation on-site.

The newspaper praised the Rakwon County facility, describing it as a modern, advanced complex. It pointed out the production facilities and the variety of low-rise and single-story homes that blend harmoniously with the surrounding landscape, creating a picturesque scene befitting the meaningful name Rakwonpo.

Kim emphasized that the establishment of this impressive seaside aquaculture facility and fishing village in Rakwon County—one of the nation’s smallest and economically weakest counties—has significantly improved the area’s prospects for development. He added that the area can now proudly bear the name Rakwon (pronounced similarly to Paradise).

The leader inspected various production facilities, including the main control room and raw material processing plant, confirming that load testing and technical integration had been completed. He also examined the fishermen’s cultural housing district.

Kim stressed that just as they have established this seafood production base in a prime location for the benefit of Rakwon County residents, future projects should prioritize the needs and interests of the people as the absolute standard, dedicating maximum effort to every facet of development.

During his visit, Kim discussed a new development plan to enhance the county’s economic potential. He directed that local residents evaluate the project and ordered that a completion ceremony for the Rakwon County aquaculture facility be held in the near future.

North Korea completed a similar seaside aquaculture facility in Sinpo City last December, just five months after construction began. The Rakwon County project started in February of this year. The upcoming completion ceremony is expected either to coincide with the October 10 anniversary of the party’s founding or to serve as a highlight of achievements at the 9th Party Congress scheduled for early next year.
