As North Korea gears up for the 9th Congress of the Workers’ Party, it is accelerating preparations by holding general meetings of party representatives from cities and counties nationwide to elect delegates for the provincial party assemblies.

The party’s official newspaper, Rodong Sinmun, reported on January 24 that general meetings (representative assemblies) of grassroots party organizations have been conducted across the party with exceptional political awareness and enthusiasm from party members, followed by city and county representatives’ assemblies.

The newspaper elaborated that these assemblies, attended by delegates elected from the general meetings of relevant city and county party leadership members and grassroots party organizations, focused on comprehensively analyzing and evaluating the work of city and county party committees in implementing the programmatic tasks set forth during the 8th Party Congress and subsequent major party meetings. They also sought practical ways to improve the future work of city and county party organizations, which serve as the political command centers for their respective regions.

The assemblies emphasized that the key to achieving goals lies in the city and county party committees firmly prioritizing political work that inspires the masses’ inexhaustible spiritual strength while upholding the banner of the Three Revolutions, the party’s overarching strategy. This approach aims to thoroughly revolutionize all revolutionary strongholds within their jurisdictions.

They also reported that the assemblies conducted a rigorous analysis and review of the shortcomings and lessons from the evaluation period, followed by elections for the leadership of city and county party committees and delegates to the provincial party assemblies.

Additionally, the congress preparation committee announced that it is guiding party organizations at all levels to innovatively conduct organizational and political work, ensuring that the heightened fighting spirit of all party members, citizens, soldiers of the Korean People’s Army, and youth translates into tangible results for the upcoming congress.

Previously, North Korea decided to convene the 9th Party Congress during a plenary meeting of the Central Committee held last June. While they disclosed that important decisions related to the party congress were made during another plenary meeting in December, specific agendas and schedules have yet to be revealed.
